Newcastle Red Bulls raid Prem champions for latest new signing as ex-New Zealand U20s star joins

Hame Faiva to join Newcastle Red Bulls on a one-year deal.
Newcastle Red Bulls have continued to bolster their playing squad ahead of the upcoming Prem season by announcing the signing of Italy international hooker Hame Faiva.
The 31-year-old is making the switch from domestic champions Bath and inks a one-year contract with Steve Diamond’s side, who are on a high after their recent takeover.
Faiva has won 10 caps for Italy but played U20s rugby for New Zealand. He progressed to make his professional debut with Waikato in the National Provincial Championship.
Played at Rugby World Cup 2023
The hooker played Super Rugby for the Blues in 2017 before he made the move to Benetton and was later capped by the Azzurri and featured at the 2023 Rugby World Cup.
Faiva’s club career then took him to Worcester Warriors in the Prem, back to Super Rugby with the Hurricanes and then to Bath, where he has spent the past two seasons.
Newcastle director of rugby Diamond, who also signed the player for Worcester, said: “Hame is an experienced campaigner who gives us valuable knowhow in the front-row.

“He’s a good pro who knows what it’s all about, and he’ll give us the quality and depth that we need to kick on at this level.
“He was left high and dry by what happened while we were at Worcester, but he’s a great addition to our group.”
Faiva said: “I feel truly blessed that my family and I can be part of this new era for Newcastle Red Bulls.
“I am committed to bringing physicality, a strong willingness to go the extra mile and being a dedicated team player.”
Linking up with Diamond again
Relishing the prospect of rekindling his professional relationship with Diamond, Faiva added: “It was a pleasure working with Dimes during our time together at Worcester Warriors.
“He is a straightforward and honest individual – qualities I greatly appreciate.
“What he did for us as players was truly inspiring, especially during that challenging period. He consistently supported both the players and staff throughout the entire journey and it will be great to work with him again.”
