Following the final round of the Rugby Championship, here’s how the weekend’s action impacted the World Rugby rankings.

New Zealand finished the tournament in second place after notching up their 11th straight victory over Australia in Perth, marching to a 28-14 win.

That was followed by Argentina versus South Africa at the Allianz Stadium in Twickenham, with the Springboks needing just a win to retain their title.

Rassie Erasmus’ charges duly delivered, albeit by a tight margin, as they narrowly beat Los Pumas 29-27 courtesy of braces from Cobus Reinach and Malcolm Marx.

World Rugby rankings update

The All Blacks‘ victory has seen them climb to second place in the World Rugby rankings, usurping Ireland, and returning to the position that they surrendered in defeat to South Africa in round four of the Rugby Championship.

Scott Robertson’s side earned 0.74 points from the win in Perth and now trails South Africa by just 0.82 points ahead of the November internationals next month. Australia lost the same number of ranking points in their defeat to the All Blacks.

Meanwhile, South Africa and Argentina retained their top spot and sixth-place rankings following the action in London. The Springboks earned 0.28 rating points for their victory, and the Pumas lost the same margin.

That means that ahead of the Autumn Nations Series, South Africa leads the rankings, followed by New Zealand, Ireland, France and England.

Argentina rounds out the top band of seedings for the 2027 World Cup draw in December, while Australia will be eager to improve their ranking along with the likes of Scotland, Fiji and Italy, who round out the top 10.
