What Jac Morgan’s arrival would mean for Saracens…and the other Welsh option on the table

What Jac Morgan's arrival would mean for Saracens
Jac Morgan reportedly met with Saracens officials on Wednesday as he prepares for a potential future without the Ospreys.
During a meeting of Ospreys fans last month, it was confirmed that Morgan has already informed the WRU that he would not remain in Wales under a different club if the WRU decide to cut the club.
According to RugbyPass, the next step on his rugby journey could be to London.
Jac Morgan to Saracens? The key info you need to know
- Morgan is expected to replace Tom Willis in the back row at Saracens
- Tomos Williams is also being courted by Saracens as a scrum-half option
- Ivan van Zyl and Charlie Bracken strong internal options for Saracens
The North London club are famous for their direct, pragmatic style of rugby. They don’t pretend to have the fluid dynamism of their southwest neighbours, Harlequins; they are unapologetically brutal in both their attack and defence – a style that has, for the last 15 years, proven fruitful.
As a powerful jackling backrower, Morgan would fit into this mould. The Welsh star has all the attributes needed to excel in a team that doesn’t mind getting into the thick of it.
Morgan was one of the standout players on the recent British and Irish Lions tour, proving that he has what it takes to compete for his place in teams with the very best collection of players.
It’s also worth noting that, as the only Welshman on the tour, Morgan would have had to build relationships with numerous others within the group, including the large Saracens contingent that had travelled. Jamie George, Ben Earl, Elliot Daly, Maro Itoje, and Owen Farrell would have all made Morgan feel welcome, and this could be a major factor in the 25-year-old opting to move to London.
Still not quite at peak physical age, Morgan could provide plenty of years in the red and black, as the club looks to the future to help rebuild the legacy that peaked in the 2010s.
With the exit of Tom Willis to Bordeaux at the end of the summer, the back row could have a youthful look about it, with Juan Martin Gonzalez and Jac Morgan on the flanks, with Ben Earl reverting to number 8 – a position that he once made his own for England.
Tomos Williams as a scrum half option for Saracens
Wales teammate Tomos Williams is also reportedly being courted by Saracens, as the 30-year-old looks to move on from Gloucester at the end of the season when his contract expires.
Williams arrived at Kingsholm in 2024 and has since become Gloucester captain and a Lions tourist. His next step is currently up in the air, with multiple clubs and the ever-looming R360 league showing interest in the scrum half.
The former Cardiff man would face tough competition for the number nine shirt at Saracens if he were to make the move, with Ivan van Zyl a regular in the squad since arriving from the Bulls in 2021, while the young Charlie Bracken has shown huge potential at just 21 years old.
