Northampton and England tighthead Trevor Davison is set to undergo knee surgery and will miss the rest of the 2025/26 season as a result.

The prop forward, who featured off the bench in all five of England’s Six Nations Tests this year, was substituted just 12 minutes into his shift against Saracens last weekend through a knee injury.

At the time of writing, the exact details of the injury are yet to be confirmed; however, he will still need to go under the knife and therefore spend the rest of the season on the sidelines.

“Trev’s not good,” Dowson said. “He’s having surgery tomorrow and will miss the rest of the season.

“It’s primarily his knee; it’s the ligaments around it, but they’re not sure what the ACL or PCL look like, so they’ll find out more. Fingers crossed that when they go in, it doesn’t look to bad.”

The loss of Davison will come as very unwelcome news for the Saints, with the tighthead enjoying a fine campaign for the East Midlands outfit to date. Across the season, he has made 14 appearances in all competitions, a run which includes 13 starts.

That is also a replica of the impact he’s had on Northampton since his move from Newcastle in 2023, making a total of 66 appearances for the club and helping them win the 2024 PREM title and reach last season’s Investec Champions Cup final as well.

His form at Franklin’s Gardens has also earned him a recall into the England set-up, featuring six times for Steve Borthwick’s side in the past three seasons.

“He’s a huge part of the squad, and a big part of our success over the last couple of seasons,” Dowson continued. “We’ll all support him, and hopefully, he gets through surgery tomorrow as smoothly as he can and get back on the road to playing.”

Eddie Hearn: ‘Henry Pollock is the guy to completely change rugby, the spike is coming’

He is not the only England international causing Northampton sleepless nights, with Fin Smith also withdrawing injured in last weekend’s 21-17 win over Northampton Saints after a head knock.

“Fin’s going through concussion protocols,” the DoR said of the England fly-half. “This weekend he’s out, but next weekend is still a possibility.”

Elsewhere, though, Davison’s front-row colleague Emmanuel Iyogun is back in full contention this weekend, after suffering a back spasm at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last time out, while Alex Mitchell and Alex Coles are improving after respective hamstring and ankle injuries picked up while on Six Nations duty.
