Women’s Six Nations: England hammer Scotland, Wales claim away win over Ireland

England kicked off their Women’s Six Nations campaign with an impressive 57-5 win over Scotland at The DAM Health Stadium on Saturday.

Back-row Marlie Packer was a standout player as she crossed for a hat-trick of tries as England extended their winning run to 19 fixtures.

This nine-try victory will have sent a message to other Six Nations title contenders, with Packer opening her try account nine minutes in.

Packer would go over for a brace before the break while Poppy Cleall, Heather Cowell, Abby Dow and Leanne Infante also claimed scores.

Holly Aitchison and Connie Powell would add to the try count in the second period before Packer made it a hat-trick with 16 minutes left.

Another boost for England was Emily Scarratt being back on the field after suffering a broken leg last year. She fired over five conversions.

In the later game, Wales began their Six Nations campaign with a come-from-behind victory over Ireland, winning 27-19 at the RDS Arena.

The Welsh were down by nine points with less than 20 minutes remaining, but battled back incredibly well to pick up an opening triumph.

What’s more remarkable is that Wales lost 45-0 to Ireland in last year’s tournament, which is quite the turnaround as Dublin was stunned.

Wales’ scorers were Carys Phillips, Jasmine Joyce, Donna Rose and Hannah Jones, with Robyn Wilkins kicking one conversion in the win.

Ireland crossed through Aimee-Leigh Murphy Crowe, Linda Djougang and Stacey Flood, Nicole Cronin adding two conversions off the tee.
