English referee Wayne Barnes will blow the kick-off whistle for this season's Heineken Cup, when he takes charge of the match between Munster and Montauban in France on Friday, October 10.

Barnes will also be in charge the following week, when Perpignan travel to Wales to face the Ospreys.

Welshman James Jones will referee the other match of the opening night in Perpignan, with the Catalans hosting Benetton Treviso.

World Cup final referee Alain Rolland will take charge of the other big match of the first weekend when Leicester Tigers host the Ospreys on Sunday, October 12, and another Irishman, George Clancy, takes charge of Bath's visit to Toulouse on the same day.
