Having been searching for the suitable candidate for close to two years, the WRU are ready to announce the former England backs coach.

As Head of Rugby Lydon will oversee the development of age-grade rugby, the Principality Premiership and the four Welsh regions.

Lydon, who played alongside Shaun Edwards for the all-conquering Wigan, has been working in rugby league since parting company with the Rugby Football Union.

Having won 30 caps for Great Britain in the 13-man code, cementing himself as one of the game's true legends, Lydon was not as successful in his role with the RFU.

He was part of Brian Ashton's England's backroom team between 2004 and 2006, but was then removed as backs coach and turned down the opportunity to join the Rugby Football Union's Academy in England.
