Waikato defeat Auckland at Eden Park

Waikato secured a 35-27 victory over Auckland in their Mitre 10 Cup clash at Eden Park on Wednesday.

Tries from Tyler Campbell, Jordan Manihera, Sevu Reece and a penalty try helped the away side claim their first win of the season.

The away side came out guns blazing and went over for an unconverted try through Campbell after two minutes.

All Black lock Patrick Tuipulotu scored the home side's first five-pointer seven minutes later which Jordan Trainor converted to hand his side the lead.

Waikato's Manihera got the next converted try before Marcel Renata hit back for the home side. However, Matthew Lansdown slotted two successive penalties to extend the away side's lead.

Trainer slotted another penalty a few minutes before the half-time hooter. He also scored the first three points of the second half.

But a penalty try for Waikato and Reece's crossing on 60 minutes moved the Mooloos clear.

After 74 minutes the home side scored their third try through Sione Havili Talitui but it was not enough to deny Waikato the win, who added insult to injury be landing an 81st minute penalty.
