It was 24 years ago this week that the Springboks overcame the odds to defeat New Zealand and win the World Cup. However, it wasn’t just a wonderful sporting moment, it also helped the healing process of a nation that had been divided because of the apartheid regime.
When Nelson Mandela handed captain Francois Pienaar the trophy it was an iconic moment and remains an important part of South African history.
