Veainu praises Tigers’ performance

Leicester Tigers’ seven-try destruction of Castres in the European Cup was a result of the team "clicking" according to Telusa Veainu.

This is the opinion of Veainu, who scored a hat-trick, while Jonny May made it nine tries in eight Leicester starts as Tigers played some thrilling rugby.

“We aren’t going to make any excuses,” Veainu told the Leicester Mercury. “We just needed it to click as a team and against Castres we clicked.

“There are a lot of threats in the side but, at the same time, we have to do the hard work first before those spaces open up for us to do our thing.

“Our forwards really gave the platform for us to go forward, the insides (Ben Youngs and George Ford) made good decisions for us and we just have to execute, whether that is getting good metres or upping the tempo. So, for us, we are just doing our jobs.

“The first game against Racing we were disappointed to leave some points out there.

“This time around, we were pretty confident and wanted to right some wrongs, and I thought we did pretty well.

“There was a bit of old-school training. We had to up the ante.

“We knew Castres were going to come out firing, and we just had to worry about ourselves and make sure we nailed our roles.”
