Van der Walt calls for consistency
Sharks captain Philip van der Walt has called for consistency from his side ahead of their clash with the Western Force in Durban on Saturday.
After an opening-day defeat to the Reds, the Sharks won four matches in a row against the Brumbies, Waratahs, Kings and Cheetahs.
Since then they have been unable to string successive wins together and this is something that really frustrates skipper Van der Walt.
“We truly owe our fans a big one and they are due some consistency from us,” Van der Walt told Supersport.
“We want to pick up where we left off against the Jaguares. We don’t want to be in the position against the Force where, like in the match against the Rebels, we have to create something out of nothing.
"If we just carry on and work hard like we did in Argentina, where we went in with the right attitude, the performance will just come together automatically.”
The 27-year-old, who only recently took over the captaincy from Tera Mtembu, is aware that his side have been guilty of complacency at times and with matches coming up against the so-called minnows the Sunwolves and Kings, he has warned his side that they must not underestimate anyone.
“Nobody wants to build momentum more than the players themselves," said Van der Walt.
"We went in against the Jaguares with the right attitude and there will be no slacking off. We know the tournament has thrown up some unexpected results lately.
"Apart from the Force, we have matches against the Sunwolves and Southern Kings coming up, and they can all beat us if we don’t have the right attitude.”
