United States scrum-half Mike Petri has signed for Magners League outfit the Dragons for the rest of the season as back-up to Wayne Evans.

With first-team opportunities at Sale Sharks few are far between, the 26-year-old from Brooklyn arrives at Rodney Parade hoping to get some game time.

The Dragons have been looking for cover for Evans since the retirement of ex-All Black Danny Lee due to ongoing injury problems.

Petri, who has been capped 17 times by the Eagles, could make his Magners League debut against Connacht on Thursday.

“Mike has got a good pedigree and is a good professional,” said Dragons head coach Paul Turner.

“He didn't really get an opportunity at Sale because of Dwayne Peel so we have taken him until the end of the season as a direct replacement for Danny Lee.”
