United Rugby Championship: Craig Casey delighted with Munster performance

Munster scrum-half Craig Casey was happy with his performance after his side took the Dragons apart on Saturday.
Casey scored two of Munster’s 10 tries against the Dragons in their 64-3 win over their Welsh challengers.
The scrum-half and team-mate Gavin Coombes were released by Ireland coach Andy Farrell to get game-time in the United Rugby Championship, with Casey certainly proving a point with his electric performance.
Looking to prove a point
“You can say that but it’s all about getting back into the system and trying to play to the team’s ability, not trying to force your hand too much, that’s when things go wrong,” Casey told TG4.
“Obviously [you want to] play your best like every week and just being calm under pressure and hopefully I was tonight.
“Coming home to Munster, it’s easy enough, you’ve been there the whole season and the lads are very accommodating, they fill you in.
“I got the plays, got up to speed and Jack Crowley helped me along so it was good and hopefully now build for the next two games of the Six Nations.”
The dismantling of the Dragons takes Munster to third on the United Rugby Championship table ahead of their trip to face the Bulls and Lions in South Africa.
Head coach Johann van Graan understands the challenge ahead, particularly with some players hoping to link up with the national side.
“We had some very good individual performances from our side,” Van Graan said.
“It was important to get a good win before we go on tour from certain guys who want to get back into the national team.
“Obviously, Chris Farrell, Craig Casey, Gavin Coombes, Mike Haley, guys that are pushing it.
“Josh Wycherley had his first start, I thought Alex Kendellen was excellent from the bench for that 40. Really good effort from everybody involved.
“[It’s a] massive challenge, the Bulls at Loftus will be big, the Lions. I think all the South African teams came here in the cold, now we’ve got to go to the heat.
“I looked at the temperatures, it will be hot in South Africa, you’ve got to deal with the altitude and Bulls and Lions teams that are very difficult to beat at Loftus and Ellis Park.
“It’s a great challenge for the lads, we’ll lose a few more players to the national team so we’ll see just before the flight who we have but we are really looking forward to the next two weeks to go and measure ourselves against the South African teams in their back yard.”
