Trevor Hosea inks new Melbourne Rebels deal

The Melbourne Rebels have announced that promising lock Trevor Hosea has re-signed until the end of the 2023 World Cup.

The 21-year-old has been a revelation since making his debut in 2020, emerging as one of the premier second-rowers in the competition.

Hosea was announced in Rugby Australia’s official website’s Super Rugby AU Team of the Season after an impressive campaign, finishing third overall for lineout wins.

The Melbourne-born product was excited to re-commit to his hometown side, having come through the Rebels pathways and Academy.

“I’m born and bred here, I love playing for the Rebels, so re-signing was an obvious choice for me,” he said in a statement.

“I’m in a really good place at the moment with my rugby and to come home and play in front of my friends and family last month after such a long time was something I won’t forget for a long time, we’re building something exciting here.”

After a turbulent period for the club, which saw coach Dave Wessels step down as coach, CEO Baden Stephenson was pleased to secure the young player’s future.

“Trevor’s contract extension is fantastic news for our club,” he added.

“Trevor’s growth as a player and person over the last 18 months has been significant and has been a pleasure to watch.

“Our club is very proud of Trevor and it will be a very special moment for the whole rugby community in Victoria when he makes his Wallaby debut.”
