South Africa back-row Pieter-Steph du Toit and New Zealand lock Patrick Tuipulotu have inked contracts with Japanese club side Toyota Verblitz.
The double signing was announced on Monday as the team prepares for the Japan Rugby League One season, which starts in January next year.
Springbok Du Toit is currently recovering from a shoulder injury but this confirmation is sure to lift his spirits as he looks to bounce back in 2022.
The 2019 World Rugby Player of the Year has been a standout performer in recent campaigns and, alongside Tuipulotu, will bolster Toyota Verblitz.
“Toyota Verblitz is a club that is well respected and an institution that reflects hard work, high performance and elite standards,” Du Toit said.
Giving my very best
“It is a privilege to be part of such an environment and I hope to justify the faith put in me by giving my very best on and off the field.
“Meeting my new team-mates and working hard to achieve the goals of the club and hopefully make the supporters proud are expectations I am very much looking forward to.
Tuipulotu added: “I am very happy to be joining Toyota Verblitz, and hope I can add value and assist Toyota in their goal of being the best club in Japan.
“It will be pleasing to see some familiar faces at the club – Steve Hansen and Jason Price and looking forward to learning from Simon Cron as a head coach, that I have heard great things about. I am looking forward to my time in Japan and I am very grateful for this opportunity.”
