Top 14: Ronan O’Gara hit with a two-week suspension

Lawrence Nolan

The much-anticipated reunion of Bordeaux coach Christophe Urios and La Rochelle’s Ronan O’Gara will not happen after the Irishman was suspended for two weeks on Thursday.

O’Gara was not sanctioned for his role in the contretemps with Urios last weekend – that hearing is still to take place – but rather for his behaviour during La Rochelle‘s 19-0 win over Racing 92 in the Top 14 a fortnight ago.

Indiscipline

He was deemed to have been “responsible for indiscipline, including challenging the decisions of match officials” during and after the match and suspended for two weeks, meaning he will not be involved in the Champions Cup matches against Bordeaux.

O’Gara pleaded guilty to the charge and was also fined €1,000, while La Rochelle were fined €10,000, half of which was suspended.

The hearing for his touchline altercation with Urios last weekend will take place on April 13.
