Tom Curry: England flanker ruled out of remainder of Australia series due to concussion
England have been dealt a blow on their tour of Australia after flanker Tom Curry was ruled out due to concussion and will return home.
Curry sustained the concussion during Saturday’s clash with the Wallabies in Perth and will be sorely missed in the remaining two matches of the series.
The Rugby Football Union confirmed the news on Monday that the Sale Shark will soon fly home, with this a blow to England‘s series hopes Down Under.
Flying home later this week
“It has been agreed that in the interest of player welfare and recovery, he will take no further part in the tour and return home for continuing assessment and ongoing management,” read a statement.
“He has travelled to Brisbane with the squad and will fly to England later this week.”
Curry was injured during the first period of England’s 30-28 defeat to Australia, with Eddie Jones’ charges now playing catch-up in the final two games.
It’s likely that Lewis Ludlam will come into the starting line-up for the second Test, with Sam Underhill or Jack Willis expected to feature on the bench.
England have yet to make a decision on whether Curry will be replaced in the 36-man touring squad.
