Clermont full-back Isaia Toeava has suffered a recurrence of his triceps injury which will see him miss the rest of the season.

Toeava went down clutching his right arm only ten minutes in to the 26-21 shock home defeat to Brive on Sunday in what was his comeback game.

The 31-year-old had last played for Clermont in January, before undergoing surgery. And now the French club have revealed he will go under the knife once again for the exact same injury.

“As the medical team of the “yellow and blue” feared after the meeting, the medical examinations confirmed the recurrence for the all-black back with a new rupture of the triceps of the left arm. A very bad news that ends the season of Isaia Toeava and will force it to a new surgery in the days or weeks to come,” read a statement on the club’s official website.

It is a bitter blow for the 35-times capped All Black and for the les Jaunards, who already have France international backs Wesley Fofana and Noa Nakaitaci ruled out for the rest of the season.

Head coach Franck Azema’s side have qualified for the European Champions Cup semi-finals and face Leinster in Lyon on April 23.
