‘To win the double is incredible’ – Alex Goode
Saracens full-back Alex Goode praised his side’s ability to dig out a win on the big stage after they secured the Premiership title on Saturday.
On the back of their Champions Cup triumph, Saracens completed the domestic and European double with victory over Exeter at Twickenham.
And European Player of the Year, Goode, admitted that while it wasn’t a superb performance, they “found a way” to claim the coveted silverware.
“We had to work incredibly hard,” he told his club’s website.
“We obviously didn’t start well and our best bits were actually after they scored. We weren’t really as good as we should have been but we found a way and I think that speaks volumes of the group.
“Exeter are an unbelievably good side who came at us again and again and again. We had to really dig deep as a group and everyone coming off the bench to find a way and to score at the end like we did was just remarkable.
“It’s a remarkable by everyone in the squad, the coaches and the staff. To win the double is incredible.”
Mark McCall’s charges will now have five weeks off before preparation for the 2019/20 campaign begins and Goode insists there is a desire amongst the squad to keep on winning trophies.
“We’ve earned a good break because we’re exhausted!” he joked.
“There’s a hunger amongst the group; we want to keep winning, we want to keep doing this and be in finals every year and I think that’s the great strength of this group that we can improve, we can do better and when we come back next season we’ll look at how we can do that and try and raise our standards.”
