Upsets were the name of the game in Round 16, with winning and losing teams once again pretty evenly represented in our XV of the Week!

The big winners of the weekend were the Stormers, the unluckiest losers were arguably the Waratahs and Cheetahs, while the surprise results came from the Brumbies and Western Force.

The Chiefs notched up their sixth victory of the season by beating the declining Blues, while the Hurricanes denied the brave Lions a record third win on the road.

15 Kurtley Beale (Waratahs): Simply spectacular from the first minute to the last. His man-of-the-match performance deserved a better fate than the close defeat at the hands of the Bulls.

14 Riaan Viljoen (Cheetahs): Shifted from full-back to wing, and still proved to be a potent attacking weapon out wide against the Sharks. Set up a try and went over for one himself to give the Cheetahs a glimmer of hope at the death.

13 Jaque Fourie (Stormers): Was his lively self against the Rebels, causing all sorts of havoc whilst bashing through the Melbourne midfield. Was rewarded after scoring a super long-range try for his team.

12 Ma'a Nonu (Hurricanes): Set up two of his team's two tries (yes, even though they were forward passes), and breached the Lions' tryline with a five-pointer of his own.

11 David Smith (Force): The Force match-winner was denied a hat-trick but his brace was enough to upset the Highlanders in their last match at the 'House of Pain'.

10 James Stannard (Force): A few pivots put their hand up this weekend, with Matt Giteau perhaps the unluckiest to miss out. But it was also hard to leave out Stannard, a Sevens maestro who has surprised many by the way he controls the game at 10. His kicking ain't bad either – slotting four from five at Carisbrook.

9 Sarel Pretorius (Cheetahs): The Cheetahs points scoring machine has now amassed nine Super Rugby tries this season. Without a doubt, South Africa's form halfback in the competition. Lets hope he gets rewarded…

8 Duane Vermeulen (Stormers): Injected plenty of grunt for the Stormers in what was another impressive showing by the loose forward, who never shies away from the physical stuff.

7 Chris Alcock (Waratahs): The Waratahs' South African-born rookie flanker was mighty impressive against the Bulls – both running the ball and pilfering. The 22-year-old is the third-string loose forward at the Waratahs but taking his chances in the number seven jersey after injuries to captain Phil Waugh and Pat McCutcheon.

6 Liam Messam (Chiefs): Standing tall again for the Chiefs in their upset win over the Blues. It was another tireless performance and a player who continues to show he is a must for the All Blacks World Cup squad.

5 Victor Matfield (Bulls): Stepping up when it matters, Matfield is starting to peak at the perfect time for the Bulls, who relied on his leadership to get them through a tough day at the office against the 'Tahs.

4 Nathan Sharpe (Force): Without a doubt, one of the top players in the competition. Sharpe continues to put in the hard yards week in and week out.

3 WP Nel (Cheetahs): Nel's skills with ball in hand was pretty extraordinary as he used his big frame to bash his way past Sharks defenders.

2 Stephen Moore (Brumbies): Moore has been the heartbeat in the Brumbies pack since returning from injury, and played a big role in Saturday's shock win over the Reds – scoring a vital try in the process.

1 Dean Greyling (Bulls): If it moves, Greyling will tackle it. Along with Werner Kruger, held the upper hand at scrum-time against the Waratahs too (before the uncontested scrums that is).
