Sunday Social: Toulouse joy, handshakes and Chiefs class

Date published: June 16 2019

It is time for Planet Rugby’s Sunday Social, your quirky recap of the serious and not so serious talking points from the weekend’s action.

Toulouse, of course, dominated the rugby weekend after their 24-18 victory over Clermont in the Top 14 final. Huge congratulations to Ugo Mola’s side as they claim French title number 20 after a superb campaign.

The match was delayed though due to a strange and long handshake routine involving France president Emmanuel Macron.

On to the contest and Toulouse deservedly finished with their noses in front, as their social media team then kicked into gear, bringing supporters slick graphics and of course celebratory videos that were enjoyable.

Duo Lucas Tauzin and Guillaume Marchand paraded the coveted prize, the Bouclier de Brennus, on part of the lap of honour.

Toulouse also donned special T-shirts displaying it was their 20th title as the party began in Paris after another long season.

Here they are continuing the celebrations in their changing room. One imagines it was a late one for Toulouse in the capital.

This was a nice moment from Toulouse fly-half Thomas Ramos as his emotions were clear to see in a post-match TV interview.

Lightening the mood somewhat is this tweet from Blood & Mud Rugby Podcast as they joked that pre-season is fast approaching.

In the southern hemisphere the all-time Super Rugby team line-ups thankfully keep coming and this week it is the Brumbies.

And we finish with possibly the try of the round from the Chiefs as rugby coaches the world over will love how every supporting player stayed on the shoulder to create this quite brilliant team try from their own half.
