Sunday Social: Scotland’s day in the rain at Twickenham

It is time for Planet Rugby’s Sunday Social, your quirky recap of the serious and not so serious talking points from the past week’s action.

After 38 years waiting, it seems only fitting that this piece centres on Scotland’s 11-6 win over old rivals England at Twickenham. What a feeling it must have been for the players and their head coach Gregor Townsend, who had tried in vain until now.

All their players stood up with strong performances but of course some were extra special, one being flanker Hamish Watson, who attracted praise from Wales international Jamie Roberts. Roberts was to the point here in saying Watson should be a 2021 Lion.

Another Welsh legend, Sam Warburton, found time to praise Scotland full-back Stuart Hogg, who was outstanding in possession and with the boot.

It was well into the second half at Twickenham when we posted this on Twitter. Surely it ranked as one of England’s worst performances in history?

We weren’t alone in wondering when the reigning Six Nations and Autumn Nations Cup champions would turn up as the Calcutta Cup went north.

Former Scotland international Jim Hamilton was clearly in a different mood after the result and is looking forward to catching up with Andy Goode.

Indeed, it was 1983 when Scotland last won at Twickenham which makes it extra special. Here’s David Cherry and Cameron Redpath with the Cup.

We probably shouldn’t, but had a chuckle at this. One has to feel for the Scotland fans would might have been at Twickenham or in the local pubs.

There was some other Six Nations rugby taking place on Saturday and one man stole the show in Rome. Yes, it’s Antoine Dupont ladies and gents.

Dupont was in superb form as he laid on plenty of tries and scored one of his own. This picture is very much a ‘what were you worried about’ pose.

Before the action all kicked off there was the annual Six Nations Drinking Game released by Welsh Dalai Lama on Twitter. Dry January is over…

Finally, we simply must find time to praise former Wales and Lions wing Dafydd James, who did 31 marathons last month for two charities. Bravo!
