Sunday Social: Planes, Darth and Deirdre

Making its debut on Planet Rugby, we bring you the Sunday Social, your must-have recap of the big talking points from the weekend’s action.

There was no avoiding Storm Deirdre on Saturday with some teams hit worse than others, namely Northampton Saints on their trip to Timisoara. Unsurprisingly the game was called off before a ball was kicked and it’s easy to see why with Northampton’s media team keeping us well informed.

We agreed with the call…

Unbelievably it didn’t end there as the Saints even had trouble at the airport and had to dig out the plane, as referee Joy Neville revealed.

Elsewhere, there was an uncanny likeness to Darth Vader at Sixways as Worcester Warriors director of rugby Alan Solomons went all Star Wars.

One team not feeling the cold after their victory at Sale Sharks was Bordeaux-Begles, as their 17-14 Challenge Cup win clearly warmed them.

One player who won’t be feeling the chill in Europe will be Russia prop Valery Morozov, who this week was confirmed as a Sale Sharks player.

The game at Stade Ernest Wallon was one that defied the freezing conditions as Toulouse and Wasps put on a show. This try was special.

The final game on Saturday saw Bristol travel to La Rochelle and pick up an impressive, if low-scoring, victory in pretty awful conditions.

And finally one of the talking points of last week, the confiscated flags at the Recreation Ground, was mentioned by former Leinster number eight and guest pundit at Cardiff Arms Park, Jamie Heaslip.
