Sunday Social: Mayfly, a big hit and a nice touch

It is time for Planet Rugby’s Sunday Social, your quirky recap of the serious and not so serious talking points from the past week’s action.

We begin at Twickenham where England bounced back from last weekend’s Six Nations defeat to Scotland with a victory over Italy. Jonny May left his mark on that match with this acrobatic try that had everyone talking. It was an unbelievable finish.

The other big talking point from that game was the knee injury sustained by England replacement back-row Jack Willis, after he was cleared out at a ruck by Italy flanker Sebastian Negri. After the game, Negri left this message on Twitter for Willis and wished him a speedy recovery. A nice touch from the Italian back-row.

Before the game, we had some fun by using a Made in Chelsea video to mimic England fans in a desperate mood with Eddie Jones ahead of that match.

Meanwhile, at Murrayfield, like May, Wales flanker Justin Tipuric also took to the air, albeit in a much different way, during his team’s win over Scotland.

That result did not go down well with Scotland’s First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon, who was clearly disappointed her nation could not back up last week.

In the Premiership, it was a special day for England prop Dan Cole as he made his 250th appearance for Leicester Tigers in their clash with Harlequins. Ahead of the game, several of Cole’s opponents and team-mates wished him well on his achievement.

Elsewhere, former Wales flyer Gareth Thomas revealed on the BBC’s Six Nations programme that his country’s anthem has a special place in sporting history.

While Fudgie the Dog made a couple of predictions ahead of the Test between Scotland and Wales. Unfortunately, she was wrong on both occasions.

Keeping with the animal theme, new Wales sensation Louis Rees-Zammit had to do a double take when a Swan joined him at a training session.

Meanwhile, the guys at World Rugby came up with a great question on American Football. There was lots of reaction and several interesting answers.

In New Zealand, All Blacks and Hurricanes star Ardie Savea had a good reason to celebrate after he was appointed as the Wellington-based side’s captain.

While in Australia, there is plenty of excitement ahead of the upcoming Super Rugby AU season. It has been announced that the 2021 action will be broadcast on Nine Entertainment Co’s Stan Sport network, a live and on-demand streaming service.

Earlier in the week, legendary All Black full-back Christian Cullen celebrated his 45th birthday and we paid homage to him with this great solo score.

And finally, we end off with this mum in the USA, who was caught on a police officer’s dash cam while putting in this big hit on a suspected peeping Tom.
