Sunday Social: Kenmas, funny stills and the Buffalo

It is time for Planet Rugby’s Sunday Social, your quirky recap of the serious and not so serious talking points from the past week’s action.

Let’s kick off with serving up some Christmas spirit and it comes from Wales where this fan made Ken Owens all festive.

On the field and the first Champions Cup fixture of the round saw Ulster prevail at Harlequins to make it four wins out of four. However, Billy Burns was in the wars as he was run over by the powerful Paul Lasike.

On Saturday things got heated at Allianz Park when Saracens hooker Jamie George was allegedly on the receiving end of a derogatory comment from a Munster doctor. That caused a 30-man dust-up in the game.

There were a couple of funny stills from the incident as Saracens lock Joel Kpoku looked lost in the middle of that brawl.

Then there was Saracens loosehead prop Mako Vunipola finding time to re-hydrate during the scuffle, which looks hilarious.

Down in South Africa it is the Cape Town Sevens where this moment involving the USA’s Danny Barrett and South Africa’s JC Pretorius was reminiscent of George North on Israel Folau during the Lions tour in 2013.

Some more defensive work that deserves a mention is this chase back from Spain’s Franciso Hernandez as he never gave up.

It was a great Saturday for Kenya as they thrilled everyone at the Sevens by making the Cup knockouts. Cue some dancing.

Their success was due to plenty of hard work though as this try proved. What power, patience and speed from the Kenyans.

However, the Buffalo and Kenya were halted in their tracks on Sunday as Justin Geduld and South Africa won their meeting.

Elsewhere, there was a flashback to the Rugby World Cup in Japan as Faf de Klerk dusted off those South African speedos, but this time was joined by England duo Danny Care and Chris Ashton for a BBC podcast.

Here’s another view of the trio with De Klerk and Ashton of course team-mates at Premiership side Sale Sharks in England.
