Sunday Social: Island style and low profile celebrations

It is time for Planet Rugby’s Sunday Social, your quirky recap of the serious and not so serious talking points from the past week’s action.

We start with that wonderful occasion in Suva, Fiji, where the Chiefs and Crusaders played out an entertaining game that thrilled those watching.

Before the Super Rugby game, both coaches, Colin Cooper and Scott Robertson, dressed for the occasion and looked sharp. Island style, indeed.

On to the fixture itself and players and supporters thoroughly enjoyed it as the Chiefs came back from 20-0 down to overcome the Crusaders 40-27.

Chiefs openside flanker Sam Cane was a nuisance at the breakdown as his return from a serious neck injury has been seamless. What a player.

Earlier in the week the hot topic was former Wallaby Phil Kearns’ comments that the Jaguares shouldn’t be in Super Rugby due to their Test-filled team. Needless to say this was jumped on from all quarters as being “sour grapes” and Twitter continues to show its reaction, especially after the Argentine side won again on Saturday, against the Reds.

Meanwhile, Saracens completed the double when they overcame Exeter Chiefs 37-34 in the Premiership Final at Twickenham on Saturday.

The Chiefs made the brighter start to the final when scrum-half Nic White crossed the whitewash shortly after the match kicked off.

Maro Itoje stepped up with another superb individual performance for Sarries, who rallied to see off a Chiefs side that pushed them all the way.

Indeed, Saracens had to dig deep for the win and when the chips were down, Owen Farrell and Liam Williams combined brilliantly for this try.

After Sarries’ Champions Cup Final triumph over Leinster, Alex Goode went on a legendary celebration session in his full playing kit. Unfortunately, the celebrations will be “a bit more low profile” this time.
