Sunday Social: Emotional tributes and Tom May praise

It is time for Planet Rugby’s Sunday Social, your quirky recap of the serious and not so serious talking points from the past week’s action.
We begin with some sad news as on Saturday it was confirmed that former Scarlets, Gloucester, Dragons and Wales centre Matthew J Watkins passed away after a long battle with cancer. There’s been many emotional messages from former team-mates, friends and clubs and we’ve picked out just a couple below. Rest in peace, Matthew.
Great memories #RIPMJ

Former Wales international fly-half Jonathan Davies was one of several to give his own heartfelt tribute to Watkins on Twitter.
RIP Matthew. What a lovely guy who took on cancer with courage and always had a smile on his face. @Velindre. Lived life to the full and was always smiling. Thoughts and prayers are with his family and close friends. #Putsthingsintoperspective pic.twitter.com/h60LTrvCZD

In the Six Nations, coronavirus was the talk of the build-up this week as Italy’s game against England was postponed. That means Sergio Parisse will once again miss out on an international swansong. Cue to the tweets.
Spare a thought for this bloke today. A typhoon, a pandemic… the retirement party has never seemed further away. pic.twitter.com/jdikdnWG0a

The year is 2060 and a 76 year old Sergio Parisse sits patiently on the bench of a dismantled Stadio Olimpico in a dystopian post-apocalypse itching to come on and play his farewell test match. 30th year England have failed to show. The cockroaches watch on in anticipation.

In the Premiership, Sale continued their excellent form on Friday and this was good to see as centre Sam James ran touch at his former side Manchester Rugby Club, not 24 hours after a two-try showing for the Sharks.
After scoring twice last night and helping @SaleSharksRugby top the @premrugby – this afternoon @SamJames560 is running touch for our 2nd XV at home. No wonder we love him so much around here! pic.twitter.com/aZ01n9DBdK

In Super Rugby, this was a lovely tweet from former Wallaby Tim Horan with his son Alex, who’s now playing for the Sunwolves.

There were quite a few belters this weekend and this effort from the Reds in their narrow loss to the Crusaders was outstanding.
? And this from the Reds wasn’t half bad either!pic.twitter.com/IGskInSA1F

Time for a song and how about this from Gareth Thomas as he joined the Wenglish choir and Laura Wright for the Welsh anthem.
What passion from @gareththomas14! Brilliant to see the @GuinnessGB Wenglish choir fans singing this beautiful anthem together with @thelaurawright and @Jason15Robinson!
