Sunday Social: Class acts, impressions and big hits

It is time for Planet Rugby’s Sunday Social, your quirky recap of the serious and not so serious talking points from the past week’s action.

We simply had to kick off in Christchurch where All Blacks fly-half Richie Mo’unga showed his class with this brilliant piece of play for the Crusaders in their win over Blues. This moment of ingenuity sparked a superb fightback from his side in Christchurch.

Mo’unga, who impressed throughout against the Blues, isn’t the first do something similar though with former New Zealand U20 fly-half Tayler Adams doing this while playing for New South Wales Country in Australia’s National Rugby Championship.

Returning to Christchurch, where Blues full-back Beauden Barrett could not resist putting New Zealand team-mate Mo’unga in a playful chokehold after the Crusaders number 10 helped his side to a 26-15 victory in their Super Rugby Aotearoa derby.

During the game on Saturday, Mo’unga was overheard having this funny conversation with referee Paul Williams about the match official’s slick boots.

Elsewhere, Hurricanes centre Vince Aso certainly made his presence felt with this huge hit on Highlanders fly-half Mitch Hunt in Wellington on Sunday.

As well as being on the losing side, Hunt will want to forget that game in a hurry as he was also on the receiving end of this massive hit from Asafo Aumua.

Meanwhile, in Wales, this young fan is proving to be a huge hit with his funny impressions of some of his country’s best rugby players. What a character.

It was, however, a sad day in Ireland with the passing of their national football team’s former manager, Jack Charlton, and Irish Rugby paid tribute to him with this classy message of sympathy. Charlton was of course a World Cup winner with England in 1966.

We’ll finish off on a positive here as in the Russian republic of Dagestan, an East Caucasian tur has joined in at a local rugby club’s training sessions. Wow.
