Sunday Social: Biggar’s antics and confused Scots
It is time for Planet Rugby’s Sunday Social, your quirky recap of the serious and not so serious talking points from the past week’s action.
We start with Saturday’s Six Nations action and France’s 27-23 victory over Wales in Cardiff. It was hugely disappointing for the hosts, who saw their Championship chances take a huge blow, and one of the players didn’t take it particularly well.

In typical Biggar fashion, the fly-half was a bit too aggressive when speaking to the officials during the match and this supporter rather summed it up.

Although Wales came back into the game late on, they were second best for the majority of it and left some hoping for a repeat of their World Cup quarter-final.
THE MASTERPLAN:
Step one: Bring on Aaron Wainwright
Step two: Wait until he gets punched by a random Frenchman
Step three: Win the game
Simple.

Wales were on the front foot in the latter stages, playing against 14 men after tighthead prop Mohamed Haouas had been sin-binned. Enter Demba Bamba, who won a crucial penalty despite claims from some observers that he is a “poor scrummager.”
Demba Bamba, who was injured coming into the England game, struggled in the scrum.
Now has a rep as a poor scrummager.
Everyone seems to have forgotten that France won their first World U20s title because he was the most destructive age group scrummager in the world.#WALvFRA

Meanwhile in the stands, former player Lee Jarvis was amused to witness one French supporter enjoying the game in his own special way.
French supporter next to me buys a small bottle of red wine in the stadium £6.
Sits down and the pulls out of his coat pocket
Mature Cheddar cheese and olives from tesco👍That is Priceless. 🇫🇷

On to Scotland’s victory in Italy where both sides contrived to produce a pretty abysmal spectacle. Scottish fans were not particularly happy with their tactical approach when they contained a number of talented players in the backline.
Everyone: It’s great weather, Italy have a shaky defence and Scotland have game breakers. Perfect for running rugby!
Toony: Kick it!
Everyone: but…
Toony: KICK IT! #ITAvSCO #GuinnessSixNations

They did manage to see one piece of individual brilliance, however, as Hogg scythed through the Italian rearguard for a wonderful try.
Worth waiting for… What a score from Scotland skipper @StuartWHOGG_!#ITAvSCO #GuinnessSixNations pic.twitter.com/wrWhSXSlKI

A victory is a victory though for the Scots and Graham Love was cracking the champagne as they celebrate a first win this Six Nations campaign.

England face Ireland later on Sunday and key to their victory will be the kicking of Owen Farrell, who showed how it’s done in this amusing sketch.
Owen Farrell is one of the finest place-kickers in the game, so what is his secret?
Concentration. Total concentration 😐

Another funny moment was this interview with Manchester United and Ireland football legend Roy Keane, who showed his softer side to this young rugby fan.

In the southern hemisphere, the Crusaders continued their fine start to the 2020 campaign where Jack Goodhue was once again excellent in the 12 shirt.
He grows a nice mullet and throws a beautiful offload, is there anything Jack Goodhue can’t do?

There is regularly a debate over non-neutral referees in Super Rugby and this rather staggering statistic was posted last week. Thoughts?
Super Rugby ‘home town refs’ penalty awarded differential since 2017:
Australia (+16)
New Zealand (-15)
South Africa (+159)
Argentina (+19)Yes, that’s right, +159 pic.twitter.com/DkIg8cTAvx

Perhaps the message has got through after this last-minute penalty won the game for Blues against the Bulls in Pretoria.
This is tense 😲

Finally, there was an interesting story from America with two NFL players investing in rugby union. This can only be positive for the game over there, both financially and in terms of exposure for the sport in the US.
Nate Ebner and Patrick Chung’s official introduction as New England Free Jacks part owners. Ebner, a rugby lifer, said his dad would be proud of this.
Chung has never played rugby but said he’s grown to appreciate the sport because “it’s constant chaos.”
