Sunday Social: April Fools, Antoine Dupont’s world and heated coaches

Dylan Coetzee

It is time for Planet Rugby’s Sunday Social, your quirky recap of the serious and not so serious talking points from the past week’s action.

Once again, April Fool’s plagued social media this year with this pearler coming out of Australia. Fool rebrand? We hope none of you fell for this one.

Another fool in the midst. The Blues joke about players being able to personalise their jerseys from 2024 onwards. The chaos that erupts on the field with random names and numbers would be a sight to behold. Should something like this be considered?

Meanwhile, it’s Antoine Dupont‘s world, and we’re just living in it. The French captain shows pure class yet again, breaking the line and then nailing a perfectly weighted cross-kick a couple of phases later. Is Dupont French for cheat code, by any chance?

Another of the game’s greats today, South Africa’s Cheslin Kolbe, showed you should never give up on a chase as he profited from his own hard work, here.

We liked this… take a moment to pick the next England head coach. It sounds about as organised as the RFU’s current strategy to find Eddie Jones’s successor.

“I will think about it, think about it deeply.” Brendan Venter’s classic interview has resurfaced again this week. Not sure whether it is blind rage or utter defeat that has dumbed Venter down in this one! Those of you who have see Mike Bassett will know more.

Elsewhere, she said YES! A special moment as two opposition coaches get engaged after their game. Moments like these show how rugby brings people together and fosters relationships with a mutual passion.

That’s not the first or last shove between Northampton’s Grayson brothers. This brilliant clip shows what happens if you get in the way of your scrum-half brother. Awesome stuff.

Gingers everywhere! Glasgow hilariously mock the departing Rob Harley by wearing wigs for their captain’s run. Lovely banter from the Warriors lads.

While it was fun and games at Glasgow, their United Rugby Championship game itself brought a moment of sadness and reflection from Harley and company as they paid tribute to former player Federico Aramburú, who was tragically killed in Paris.

Someone get this man some gloves. La Rochelle coach Ronan O’Gara’s celebration is not received well by Bordeaux coach Christophe Urios as the two square up. Should rugby coaches be allowed on the sidelines during the game or is it good for the sport?

Finally, this is absolutely genius from this lad who uses the rugby to claim himself a bit of alone time with some beers. Rugby is for everyone, even those who have no idea what is happening on the field!
