Sunday Social: A milestone, some milk and a funny story

It is time for Planet Rugby’s Sunday Social, your quirky recap of the serious and not so serious talking points from the past week’s action.

We start in Wales, where there was cause for celebration as veteran hooker Ken Owens played in his 250th game for Scarlets in their win over Dragons at Rodney Parade.

Owens’ milestone match was celebrated far and wide and he received several special messages from around the world. Congratulations on a fantastic achievement, Ken!

Elsewhere, in Sydney, Melbourne Rebels utility back Matt Toomua remembered to follow the drinking rules despite being in the heat of battle in his side’s clash with the Waratahs.

In other action, the Brumbies’ match against the Western Force in Canberra was a momentous occasion as Amy Perrett became the first woman to referee a Super Rugby game. Well done, Amy!

While in New Zealand, this player got his team onto the front foot with this mazy run during a schools game. There was just no stopping him.

Meanwhile, much has been said about football star Lionel Messi’s next destination after he handed in a transfer request to his club, Barcelona. The World Rugby guys reckon a switch to the oval-ball game might do the trick.

In England, desperate times seems to have called for desperate measures as a Premiership club has turned to a different way of recruitment.

Staying up north, where former England and British & Irish Lions prop Jason Leonard regaled the guys from The Good, The Bad & The Rugby podcast with this funny story from the 1993 Lions tour to New Zealand.

We sign off with Sale Sharks flanker Tom Curry, who celebrated his team’s superb win over Bristol Bears by having some milk after the game. That must be the secret to those tough Curry genes.
