Stormers bolster fly-half stocks

The Stormers have secured a loan deal with Griquas for fly-half George Whitehead ahead of the upcoming 2018 Super Rugby season.

WP Rugby confirmed the agreement to Netwerk24 on Wednesday after the player joined the Stormers’ pre-season training squad.

Whitehead, who grew up playing his rugby with the Cheetahs, was a standout performer for the Griquas in the Currie Cup last year and has attracted the interest of the Stormers who are thin on fly-half options after the departure of Robert du Preez to the Sharks.

Damian Willemse and Joshua Stander are the fit number 10s in the squad at the moment as it remains uncertain when Jean-Luc du Plessis will return following his hip operation last year.
