Six-try Breach stars for Red Roses

It was a dream debut for England wing Jessica Breach as she scored six tries in the Red Roses’ 79-5 win over Canada at Allianz Park.

Friday’s victory also saw Rachel Burford, Abbie Dow (2), Amy Cokayne, Marlie Packer, Rochelle Clark and Ellie Kildunne go over for scores.

England were dominant from start to finish in the 13-try victory, with their star of the show clearly 20-year-old Breach, who shone throughout.

“I’m thrilled really as we wanted to get some certain things out of the game and we got them tonight,” coach Simon Middleton told England Rugby after the victory.

“Particularly our defence, I know it’s easy when you score nearly 80 points but that is a big work on as we weren’t good enough at the World Cup.

“Some of our attacking play was great and we did what we said we wanted to do which was get the gas on the ball on the edges. When you’ve got an axis of Katy Daley-Mclean, Rachel Burford and Amber Reed in the middle, you’re not going to be short of ball on the edge.

“I’m really pleased for them as right across the board all the girls played well tonight and everybody who came on and on debut did a great job.

“I went and watched Jess when I first came in the job four years ago and it’s one of those things you can’t help but notice her because of her pace. She’s been on the radar for a while and it’s been a great job Jo Yapp and the team have done with her.”
