Six Nations: Italy suffer Stephen Varney injury blow

Italy have been dealt a blow after scrum-half Stephen Varney was ruled out for the remainder of the Six Nations with an unspecified injury.

Varney has featured in Italy‘s opening matches of this year’s Championship, their defeats to France, England and most recently Ireland last Sunday.

But now Varney, 20, has had his Six Nations cut short and will subsequently miss the upcoming games against Scotland (home) and Wales (away).

Gutted to miss out

“Gutted to have been ruled out for the remainder of the Six Nations through injury,” the Gloucester scrum-half said in a statement on social media.

“All the best to the boys for [the] next two games.”

Varney has won 12 caps for his country and it is now likely that Alessandro Fusco will take over the number nine jersey for the remaining matches.
