Shock phone call for Trinder

Henry Trinder admitted to a feeling of shock when he received a phone call from England head coach Stuart Lancaster on Tuesday.

England back Henry Trinder revealed his delight at being named in Stuart Lancaster's squad and cannot wait to get involved over the coming weeks.

Trinder was included in the group on Wednesday alongside Luther Burrell, Joel Tomkins and Kyle Eastmond ahead of November's Test series.

And he is eager to make that count in training as he looks to secure a starting berth against the Wallabies at Twickenham on November 2.

“I'm not a young player anymore, and so it's about living up to my potential now,” he told the Gloucestershire Echo.

“I've had people praise what I could be, but now I've got to make that happen that for myself.

“It's a dream for me to be back in the squad, that's where I want to be, and not just for now but for the next few years.

“So I'll throw everything at maintaining that position.”

Solid early season form has won Gloucester outside centre Trinder a place in the group after what's been a spell away from the international setup, something he's glad to end.

“It's been a bit of a rocky road for the last few years so I'm delighted to be back now,” he added.

“I had a great pre-season with Gloucester, have built some confidence and can now really look forward to the autumn internationals.

“Stuart rang me on Tuesday, it's great to talk to him again but it's always a shock when you see his number come up on your phone.

“He's backing me and that's great.

“And now I've got to go out there and prove him right.

“Stuart said, 'What have you been doing in pre-season!' “Nigel and all the Gloucester coaches have spoken very highly of me and have backed me throughout the season.

“I've just tried to go out there, play well and repay their faith.

“Stuart congratulated me on my start to the season, he said he wants me in his squad and he told me just to keep pushing forward.”
