Sharks sympathise with Janse van Rensburg

Sharks boss Robert du Preez admitted that dropping Benhard Janse van Rensburg had not been an easy decision ahead of Saturday.

The young fly-half replaced Pat Lambie for last week’s unconvincing win over the Kings, with Janse van Rensburg dropping out of the matchday 23.

Curwin Bosch, who has starred at full-back, comes in at fly-half for Saturday’s trip to Bloemfontein.

Du Preez though had plenty of encouraging words for the 20-year-old Janse van Rensburg, hinting that he would see plenty of action with the Sharks in the future.

“It was very hard. I don’t like doing that but this game is obviously a really big game for us,” Du Preez told Sport24.

“With Curwin coming in at 10, he’s been playing there all the time. I’m very happy with Curwin there.

“I think it was a tough game for Benhard. It would have been tough for any ten because our forwards couldn’t get going and we couldn’t get our shape going on attack. It made it very difficult for him.

“He’s a tough guy. We will definitely hear and see more about him in the future, there’s no doubt about that.

“He’ll be spending some time with the SA U20 on their camp. It’s very exciting to have a young fly-half like that and also a guy like Inny [Radebe] going forward.”
