Italy legend Sergio Parisse has signed a new one-year contract extension at Toulon after impressing at the Top 14 outfit during the curtailed 2019/20 season.
The 36-year-old, who has earned 142 caps for the Italians, initially joined Patrice Collazo’s men following the World Cup.
Parisse had spent 14 years with Stade Francais and was initially intending to end his international career at the global tournament in Japan, until Typhoon Hagibis forced the cancellation of Italy’s final game against New Zealand.
As a result, the number eight delayed his Azzurri farewell until the Six Nations, but the coronavirus pandemic put paid to that.
With the back-rower now agreeing a new deal which takes him to the end of the 2020/2021 campaign, Parisse will hope nothing else will deny him a deserved send off.
He has joined a number of players in recommitting to Toulon for the forthcoming campaign, including France captain Charles Ollivon, while the Stade Mayol-based side have also announced the signing of former All Black Isaia Toeava.
