Season over for Munster fly-half Joey Carbery

Munster have received a blow after it was confirmed that fly-half Joey Carbery will miss the rest of the PRO14 season due to injury.

The 24-year-old star has been struggling with an ankle injury over recent months and underwent surgery last week, which ends his campaign.

Carbery originally picked up the problem whilst featuring for Ireland during the Rugby World Cup warm-up fixture against Italy last August.

Munster are also without fellow fly-half Tyler Bleyendaal (neck), which means JJ Hanrahan is set to continue in the 10 position in 2019/20.

Johann van Graan’s side confirmed the news in an injury update following their recent PRO14 triumph over Scarlets, adding that second-row Jean Kleyn (neck), hooker Rhys Marshall (knee), back-row Tadhg Beirne (ankle) and prop Brian Scott (foot) remain out for the time being.

Fortunately for Munster their next PRO14 game is not until March 21 when they return to action with an away match against Benetton Rugby.
