Sean Everitt hails returning Boks’ impact for Sharks

Sharks head coach Sean Everitt praised the impact made by his returning Springbok internationals during Friday’s United Rugby Championship triumph against the Bulls in Durban.

Bok first-choice players Siya Kolisi, Lukhanyo Am, Makazole Mapimpi and debutant Bongi Mbonambi were all in the Sharks’ run-on side along with fellow 2019 Rugby World Cup winners Sbu Nkosi and Thomas du Toit.

They were all at the forefront of a big onslaught in the 30-16 win over the Bulls and their efforts did not go unnoticed with Everitt delighted to have them back for the crucial fixture.

“They did come through really well. Lukhanyo Am got man of the match and I think he’s played 80 minutes in every game that he’s played for South Africa,” he said after the match.

Outstanding attitude

“What’s most pleasing about the Boks coming back is their attitude. These guys came back really well prepared with the stuff we had given them while they were overseas. They had studied thoroughly, and it was a smooth transition having them back in the fold.

“That’s what you would expect from Springbok rugby players. I’ve been at the Sharks for a long period of time now, and sometimes I’ve really been worried about the attitude some Springboks have come back to training with.

“It’s really pleasing and I think what Rassie and Jacques have created at the Boks is something special. We just look forward to those guys rubbing shoulders with our youngsters and showing them the right way.”
