Scotland have confirmed that centre Matt Scott has been ruled out of the remainder of the November Tests because of a hand injury.

Scotland have confirmed that inside centre Matt Scott has been ruled out of the remainder of the November internationals due to a hand injury.

The 23-year-old sustained the injury in the closing stages of the 42-17 win against Japan, with team doctor James Robson explaining the situation.

“Matt was seen by consultant surgeon Doug Campbell at SPIRE Leeds yesterday and it was confirmed he has sustained a fracture to a bone in his hand,” he told Scottish Rugby's website.

“Happily, Matt does not require surgery. The usual return to play from an injury of this nature is approximately six weeks.

“Matt will now be in the care of the Edinburgh Rugby medical team and we wish him a speedy recovery.”

Dr Robson added: “Both Ryan Grant and Alastair Kellock (the Glasgow Warriors prop and lock) are continuing to make good progress on the return to play protocol following the concussive episodes they sustained at the weekend.

“Stand off Duncan Weir (Glasgow Warriors) was examined at SPIRE Shawfair Hospital in Edinburgh yesterday following the groin injury he suffered against Japan. He has minor soft tissue damage and is making good progress under the care of our physios, Paul McGinley and Stephen Mutch.

“His team-mate, Tim Swinson, continues to recover from the shoulder injury he sustained against Japan, though he will not be training this afternoon.

“Nor will Greig Laidlaw train this afternoon as he is undergoing re-hab and recovery from a calf injury from the weekend.”

Scotland have subsequently called up Jack Cuthbert, Tom Brown, Lee Jones, Ross Rennie, Jon Welsh, Byron McGuigan and Stevie McColl as injury cover ahead of facing South Africa.
