Adam Hastings set for early return from injury

Adam Hastings could be back in action in time to play a part for Scotland in next year’s Six Nations, according to his Glasgow coach Danny Wilson.

National team boss Gregor Townsend suffered a major blow last month when he lost both the Warriors stand-off and Racing 92 star Finn Russell to injury within minutes of each other during the same game as Scotland beat Wales in Llanelli.

Hastings, 24, suffered a serious shoulder injury that required surgery. He was expected to be out for up to four months, which would have ruled him out for most of the championship, but could now be back sooner.

Fly-half options

In Hastings’ and Russell’s absence, Townsend has been forced to recall Duncan Weir after four years out of the Dark Blues’ starting XV, while Edinburgh’s Jaco van der Walt was handed his Test debut against Ireland in Dublin on Saturday.

But with Russell set to return again for the Six Nations, Wilson says Townsend could also yet add Hastings to his mix when his side kick off their campaign against England at Twickenham on February 6.

He said: “I think the Six Nations is still a possibility for Adam. He’s in the middle of his rehab at the moment and is spending his days with the physios.

“He’s working hard but he’s got a fair way to go as it’s a fairly-substantial injury.”
