Schalk Brits confirms Stormers move
Springboks and former Saracens hooker Schalk Brits has confirmed that he will be playing for the Stormers during the 2019 Super Rugby tournament.
According to Brits, he reached an agreement with Western Province Rugby early in October to join the Stormers.
“I see a bright future here,” he told Netwerk24.
“The players are unbelievable and if you add the Springboks to the Currie Cup team, then thre’s definitely potential to gain success.”
The 37-year-old’s plan is to make an impact for the Stormers in a bid to stake a claim for a spot in the Springbok squad for next year’s Rugby World Cup in Japan.
“I want to put push hard for a position and give the coaches a headache regarding who they will choose,” said Brits.
“I’m definitely not here for the money. I want to add value on and off the field.”
Brits is set to compete with Bongi Mbonambi and Scarra Ntubeni for the Cape Town-based outfit’s number two jersey. Ramone Samuels, who was the Stormers’ hooker in several Super Rugby matches this year, is out of action with a serious knee injury.
