Wallabies centre Samu Kerevi says he is still two months away from a return to action, despite initially having been scheduled to return in late September.

Kerevi sustained a torn bicep in the Wallabies’ 2-1 series defeat to Ireland in June and underwent surgery in July. However, the 24-year-old says his recovery is taking longer than expected.

“Rehab is coming along quite slow but I want to do it properly before I get back to playing,” Kerevi told Rugby Australia’s website. “Probably another eight to 10 weeks until I’m back playing.”

It comes as bad news to Wallabies coach Michael Cheika, especially with the midfield injury crisis shrouding the dressing-room at the moment.

Brumbies number 13 Tevita Kuridrani is another out with a long-term injury, which has meant utility back Reece Hodge has had to step up to fill the void. And Kerevi believes Hodge has done a good job in that regard.

“I thought he did an awesome job,” Kerevi said. “There’s a lot of depth in that spot still. We have Curtis Rona and Billy Meakes who can play there as well.”

The Wallabies next face a wounded Springboks side in Brisbane on September 8.
