Sale have moved to strengthen their scrum-half options by bringing USA international Mike Petri to Edgeley Park.
The 25-year-old has been capped 15 times and was part of the US squad at this summer's Churchill Cup, scoring in the 39-22 victory over Russia.
The Brooklyn-born scrum-half, who captained the New York AC side, will provide competition to Wales international Dwayne Peel, Will Cliff and Chris Leck.
And Sale coach Mike Brewer believes Petri will flourish in the professional environment.
Brewer said: “As we saw in the recent Churchill Cup, Mike is a good organiser who bosses his forwards.
“He's a strong player with the ball. This will be his first full-time contract, training in a fully professional environment.
“He will encounter new daily challenges, and I'm certain they will contribute to a significant improvement in his game.”
Petri is the latest new signing for the Sharks, following the arrivals of Paul Williams, Matty James, Aston Croall, Kyle Tonetti and Wame Lewaravu.
