England coach Ben Ryan was once again forced to make changes to his squad ahead of an International Rugby Board (IRB) Sevens World Series tournament.
England have struggled for consistency in the 2007/08 Series and continuously changing their squad is not at all helping their cause, but Ryan remains optimistic about what certainly isn't an ideal situation to be in.
Kevin Barrett, who is one of the two replacements to the team that will do battle against South Africa, the USA and Mexico in Pool D at the San Diego tournament this weekend, at least has some Sevens experience, which is something England desperately need at the moment.
“Kevin Barrett will come in for [Danny Care]. Kevin is a real live wire with England Student and England Sevens experience. So I'm looking forward to seeing what he can do,” Ryan said in a statement on Thursday.
Tom Tombleson, who has no Sevens experience, will replace Ayoola Erinle of the Leicester Tigers just one day before the San Diego tournament kicks off. Ryan realises that it will certainly be daunting task for the youngster indeed.
“It will be hard for Tom as this will be his debut for England Sevens and he flies in just in time for the captain's run the day before the tournament but he's young and keen and I'm sure he will benefit from his sevens experience,” added Ryan.
