Rugby Union Today: World Cup squads and Georgia analysis

Another busy day in the rugby union game as Scotland reveal their World Cup squad while Sam Larner returns to analyse the recent showing of Georgia and where their rivals can exploit them.

What’s on the site

Stuart McInally will captain Scotland in Japan but there is no place for Huw Jones or Rory Hutchinson in the 31-man squad.

Larner is back and looks over how Georgia performed against the Scots last week, highlighting their weaknesses in that game.

Elsewhere, South Africa have named their squad to take on Japan in their final Rugby World Cup warm-up fixture on Friday.

What’s in the news

Northampton Saints have announced that scrum-half James Mitchell has put pen to paper on a short-term deal at the club.

Georgia meanwhile have included veteran Mamuka Gorgodze in their squad for the World Cup as he comes out of retirement.

After his sparkling form all season for Northampton and last weekend for Scotland, we’re shocked by Hutchinson’s absence.

What’s on TV

It’s the final weekend of the World Cup warm-ups and England’s clash with Italy at St James’ Park will be televised on Sky Sports.

They also have the All Blacks v Tonga match, while all the Mitre 10 Cup and Currie Cup action will be broadcast on that channel.

In Dublin, Ireland and Wales go head-to-head and that match takes place on Channel 4, while Premier Sports have Scotland’s return fixture versus Georgia.
