Rugby Union Today: Wales’ wing Eli Walker retires

Another busy day in the rugby union game as one-time capped Wales international Eli Walker was forced to retire at 25 because of injury.

In Super Rugby, we have reports on the Blues-Chiefs and Reds-Brumbies encounters, while there are also previews of Saturday’s contests, which includes Bulls against the Lions.

While the southern hemisphere are enjoying the sunny weather, that is not the case up north with a number of games postponed. Only the South African-based games are taking place in the PRO14 and we look ahead to Cheetahs v Connacht.

The Premiership are hopeful of having their matches go ahead, however, and there is a preview of the games on Saturday and Sunday.

Eli Walker, who played his entire professional career at the Ospreys, announced his retirement at the age of just 25 because of injury.

Continuing in the PRO14 and Jono Gibbes will leave Ulster at the end of the season, following Les Kiss in departing the Northern Irish province.

What’s on TV

The Six Nations takes its final break so the Premiership, PRO14 and Super Rugby takes centre stage. BT Sport will, weather depending, broadcast three matches from England’s top-tier, showing Harlequins-Bath, Exeter-Saracens and Worcester-Leicester.

On Sky Sports, they have four further Super Rugby games and the Cheetahs v Connacht encounter from the PRO14. The sevens also continues with the Las Vegas leg of the series being televised throughout the weekend.
