Rugby Union Today: Wales squad and analysis

Adam Kyriacou

Another busy day in the rugby union game as Wales announce their Rugby World Cup training squad while Sam Larner returns with analysis on the importance of the work of a tackled player.

What’s on the site

Wales coach Warren Gatland has unveiled a 42-man squad that includes two uncapped players in Rhys Carre and Owen Lane.

Larner meanwhile has studied last week’s Tyrrell’s Premier 15s final and highlights why the tackled player is crucial to a team.

Elsewhere, Chiefs lock Brodie Retallick is set for a further three weeks out while Bulls centre Jesse Kriel has had an operation.

What’s in the news

Coming back to Gatland, the Wales boss has revealed there has been no contact with England over taking over as head coach.

Bristol Bears have announced that 11 players will leave the club at the end of 2018/19, including George Smith and Jack Lam.

We had to give this a push on our social media channels. Brilliant from Fox Sports Rugby in Australia, if you watch the show.

What’s on TV

The Premiership reaches its penultimate round and BT Sport have the action. They’ll televise the big clash between Saracens and Exeter Chiefs, while they also have Harlequins v Leicester and Bath v Wasps.

In the PRO14, they are at the play-off stage of the competition and Premier Sports have the ‘quarter-final’ games as Munster host Benetton and Connacht visit Ulster.
