Rugby Union Today: Teams of the Week
Another busy day in the rugby union game as we take a look at the best individual displays from the weekend’s Champions Cup and Super Rugby action.
What’s on the site
Munster, Leinster, Racing 92 and Scarlets reached the semi-finals of the Champions Cup and several individuals from those sides are represented in our Team of the Week.
We also have a Super Rugby Team of the Week where the Sharks and Hurricanes produced outstanding performances away from home.
In ‘who’s hot and who’s not,’ Andrew Conway, the Scarlets and the Du Preez brothers were among those to impress, but it was a poor weekend for the Auckland-based Blues, Clermont Auvergne and the officials at Thomond Park.
What’s in the news
The Scarlets enjoyed a fine weekend, reaching the semi-finals of the Champions Cup in front of a full house, but that has been marred by alleged racist chanting by some members of the crowd, with the club launching an investigation.
Munster, like the Welsh region, are in the last four in Europe’s top-tier competition, but they will be without Tommy O’Donnell for the rest of the season.
What’s on social media
James Ryan has been compared to Maro Itoje since bursting onto the scene and his record for Leinster and Ireland is similar to that of the England lock’s first season as a regular for club and country.
James Ryan has (still) never lost a professional game. 19/19.

What’s on TV
The Premiership returns on BT Sport with them showing Sale Sharks v Wasps, Bath v Leicester Tigers and the West Country derby between play-off chasers Exeter Chiefs and Gloucester.
On Sky Sports, Super Rugby opens proceedings as the Hurricanes host the Sharks before they broadcast four more games on the Saturday. There are also two Top 14 encounters, the Scarlets’ PRO14 match against the Glasgow Warriors and the Honk Kong Sevens.
