Rugby Union Today: Team of the Week and Hot and Not

Colin Newboult

Another busy day in the rugby union game as we look back at the action in the Six Nations and name our best XV from the matches that took place.

What’s on the site

England and France produced one of the great Six Nations matches, with the Red Rose eventually prevailing, and those sides have been rewarded by dominating our Team of the Week.

That competition is also discussed in ‘Who’s hot and who’s not,’ which delves into the main talking points from the past seven days. We look at Wales’ outstanding tournament so far and the Chiefs’ disappointing start to the Super Rugby Aotearoa season.

Elsewhere, there are highlights from the Six Nations, Premiership and PRO14, where there were important wins for Ireland, Exeter Chiefs, Northampton Saints, Edinburgh and Cardiff Blues.

What’s in the news

Ireland have been dealt a blow ahead of their Six Nations clash against England, with Garry Ringrose and James Ryan both ruled out of the contest. There is some positive news, however, with Peter O’Mahony returning to the squad following his suspension.

Meanwhile, Wales captain Alun Wyn Jones is relishing their trip to Paris this weekend where they will face France looking to secure their fifth Grand Slam in the Six Nations era.

Finally, there were some interesting comments from England and Bath prop Beno Obano, who believes that diversity in rugby union has improved but insists that the sport still has some way to go.

What’s on TV

The Six Nations continues this weekend with ‘Super Saturday’ and it will be broadcast on the BBC and ITV. It kicks off when Scotland and Italy go head-to-head before Ireland take on England in Dublin. It finishes with France v Wales, with the visitors looking to secure the Grand Slam.

There is also Premiership action on BT Sport, which starts with Newcastle Falcons v Wasps on Friday, while Premier Sports has the PRO14 as usual.
